![]() gparted works the same be it ubuntu or Linux Mint and I think many other distros too. This is still very accurate today although it says ubuntu 16.04. Or if you have another machine that can serve as a ( if I f this up.no big 's a scratch machine) to practice the instructions below on just incase something goes south and you end up having to start over clean installing from scratch. see if you can backup your important media files ( docs, pics, music, videos, screenshots of particular programs' settings, notes about how you set up certain things like gui settings, time settings, what name/how drives are mounted.if applicable.etc email screenshots of these to yourself if needs be). I'm good at it, but I really don't have time nowadays.īefore you do anything, if you have another separate drive besides that SSDH that you're eventually targeting with your Linux distro's new home/installation. I'm sure I could eventually troubleshoot those problems and fix them - I lived by troubleshooting IP networks and supporting Novell products for many years. How can I clone the hard drive to the SSHD so that it will dual boot, etc.?įWIW, I installed Linux on the SSHD in a second partition and it dual booted, but it wouldn't find the wireless adapter, and the Windows wouldn't load any site with SSL. The data area in both partitions is way less than 239 GB, but that apparently doesn't matter. Didn't work because the SSHD is a little smaller at 249 GB than the hard drive at 299 GB. The laptop stayed in storage for about 3 years and now the SSHD is wonky, so I broke out the old hard drive, and it still works, but naturally I want to run it on the SSHD, so I tried cloning it with Clonezilla. All that works, but it got slow, so I upped the CPU, maxed the RAM, and got an SSHD. I have dual boot with Windows 7 and Linux. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 - more than 14 years old, but I like it. I'm not an expert, but I have been using Linux for more than 13 years.
